Collins Iyamah MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a ANCC board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
I studied both nursing and advanced practice nursing at University of Texas at Arlington and Walden University Minnesota and also completed his fellowship with Medical City Behavioral unit at McKinney Texas and several mental health outpatient clinics in Dallas/Fort Worth. My clinical practice focuses on consultation, treatment selection and administration, and care coordination for patients struggling with a wide range of psychiatric illness.
As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I bring empathy, Dignity, family oriented care, mental health care with diversity and inclusion, de-stigmatizing care and motivation with an easy going communication style, and a sweet sense of humor, making it easy for me to talk to my patients and family members.
I am a practitioner who really cares about my patients and has the patience to explain what course of treatment is best and why. My patient input into the plan of care is very important.
A typical day for me includes assessing and diagnosing patients with anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Schizoaffective disorder or those who struggle with substance abuse or the different types of dementia, though I am able to prescribe medication as a viable options, I have been very successful with the holistic approach using listening, educating and motivating my patients before resorting to medication, and many times it is a combination of all. I am a firm believer that my patients must understand why they are taking medications if they choose to do so.
